Lancers win two events at season opener rodeo

The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team kicked off their fall season at the annual rodeo in Riverton, WY hosted by Central Wyoming College.  Several Lancer student-athletes did well and they captured the event title in the team roping and bull riding.

"Finishing with a couple of event titles at the CWC rodeo was a great way to start our season," shared coach Jake Clark.

In the team roping, the freshman team of Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY and Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY won with a two-head time of 15.2 seconds.  Also qualifying for the short go in the team roping were sophomore Cody Lane, Torrington, WY and partner Tyus Olson, freshman, Mud Butte, SD; Gunner Walker, freshman, Arthur, NE, and partner Kade Pinneo, freshman, Leigh, NE; Sophomore Blaine Finney, Ainsworth, NE, and partner Cotey Hansen, sophomore, Berthold, ND; and sophomore Cody Colman, O'Neill, NE who ropes with Tate Mathis who competes for LCCC.  Lane and Olson were 4th in the first go round and Walker and Pinneo were 5th.

Dalton Cunningham, sophomore, Bloomfield, NE, won the bull riding with a two day total of 149 on two bulls.  He was third in the first round and won the short round with a score of 73.

Three EWC competitors qualified for the short round in the tie down roping.  Blaine Finney, finished 5th in the average. Trevor Schnaufer, sophomore, Pueblo, CO, and teammate AJ Freeman, sophomore, Valentine, NE, finished 7th and 8th respectively in the average.  Schnaufer was 4th in the first round.

Sophomore Caden Paker, Sturgis, SD, qualified for the short round in the steer wrestling.

The Lancer rodeo team will travel to Chadron, NE to compete September 18-20.
