EWC women’s team capture team title at Sheridan rodeo

Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo Team at Sheridan College Rodeo

Jacey Thompson The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo Team just returned from competing in Sheridan, WY, at the annual rodeo hosted by Sheridan College, where the women's team won the team title.

"The women's team won the title led by Jacey and Karissa. Those two are great competitors and should continue to have a good year along with freshman Chadron Coffield who is currently leading the tie down roping standings," said Coach Jake Clark. "I am pleased with how our season has started."

Sophomore Jacey Thompson, Yoder, WY, won the goat tying with a 6.9 second run in the first round for the win and a 7.1 second run which placed second in the short round. The combined 14.0 seconds earned her first spot in the average. She placed 3rd in the first round of the Breakaway roping, 2nd in the short round, and 2nd in the average. Thompson also qualified for the short round of the team roping.

Karissa Rayhill Teammate Karissa Rayhill, sophomore, Martin, SD, won 2nd in the average of the goat tying. She was 3rd in the first round and won the short round with a combined total of 14.8 seconds.

Chadron Coffield  Chadron Coffield, freshman, Yuma, CO, was 2nd in the first round of the tie down roping, 3rd in the short round and finished the weekend 3rd in the average. Teammate Kurtis Palmer, freshman, Madison, NE, qualified for the short round of the tie down roping.

Several EWC student athletes qualified for the short round of the team roping. Sophomore Braden Pirrung, Hartford, SD, and partner Jace Engesser, Gillette College, placed 2nd in the first round, 4th in the short round and finished the weekend 2nd in the average. The sophomore team of Ty Truchan, Kildeer, ND, and Riley Ruland, Wall, SD, were 6th in the first round, 6th in the short round and 6th in the average. Thompson and partner Colin Dibbern, Chadron State College, qualified for the short round.

 The Lancer Rodeo team will travel to Riverton, WY to compete in the annual rodeo hosted by Central Wyoming College September 28-30.
