Sophomore Jacey Thompson closed the fall season out with a bang at the annual rodeo hosted by Laramie County Community College. She won the goat tying with a total time of 14.2 seconds in two rounds, she also split first and second in the breakaway roping average. Thompson also captured the women's all-around title for the weekend.
The EWC women's team is led by Thompson and teammate Karissa Rayhill, sophomore, Martin, SD. As a team they are leading the Central Rocky Mountain Regional (CRMR) standings with a total of 1348.33 points. The University of Wyoming's women's team is in second place with 1285.0 points.
Rayhill also closed out the season with a great rodeo at LCCC. She won the first round of the goat tying with a time of 6.9 seconds and finished the weekend in 3rd place in the average. She won 4th in the average of the breakaway roping with a total time of 5.7 seconds in two rounds.
In the CRMR goat tying standings, Rayhill is in second place and Thompson is in third place. Thompson is also in third place in the regional breakaway standings.
In the team roping, freshman Jace Roselle, Greeley, CO, was 2nd in the short round and 2nd in the average with partner Blaine Flack, Chadron State College. Colton Reed, sophomore, Wiley, CO, tied for the win of the first round with a time of 5.5 seconds with partner Jon Peterson, Gillette College. They finished in 4th place in the average. The sophomore team of Ty Truchan, Killdeer, ND and Riley Ruland, Wall, SD won 5th in the first round.
Freshman Kurtis Palmer, Madison, NE, qualified for the short round in the tie down roping and teammate Chadron Coffield, Yuma, CO, won 6th in the first round of the steer wrestling.
Coffield is leading the regional standings in the tie down roping with 475 points. In the team roping regional standings, sophomore Braden Pirrung, Hartford, SD is in 6th place in the heading standings while teammate Canton Afdahl, Torrington, WY is in 8th place. In the heeling standings, Reed is in 7th place and sophomore Dalton Wieneke, West Point, NE, is in 8th place.
"It is great to be leading the Women's team standings at the midpoint in a tough region," said Coach Jake Clark. "They are a very dedicated group and I am very proud of them. We have a young men's team that is doing well and I expect to see them finish strong."
The Lancers spring rodeo season will begin in March 2019.
