EWC’s Rayhill starts the season with a win

Eastern Wyoming College sophomore Karissa Rayhill began the fall college rodeo season with a win at the Chadron State College rodeo held over the weekend. The South Dakota native was 4th in the first round with a time of 8.0. She won the short round with a 7.3 second run and won the average.

Freshman Brett McAbee, Ansley, NE, placed 5th in the first round of bull riding and 5th in the average. Teammate Gage Murray, Miles City, MT, tied for 2nd in the first round of the steer wrestling.

Two Lancer teams qualified for the short round in the team roping. The sophomore team of Dalton Wieneke, West Point, NE and partner Canton Afdahl, Torrington, WY, placed 2nd in the first round. Ellie Anderson, freshman, Meeker, CO, and Seth Shorb, sophomore, Greeley, CO, placed 8th in round one.

"It was a good start to the season," said Coach Jake Clark. "We have a lot of talent and are looking forward to see how they compete the rest of the fall."

The Lancers compete in the Sheridan College hosted rodeo September 20-22.
