EWC golf team kicks off season with win at home

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team season opened with a home tournament at Cottonwood at Torrington golf course.  The Lancers won the two day tournament.

"This was a great start to our season and I am glad our players were able to take advantage of playing on our home course," shared EWC Coach Zach Smith.  "They placed themselves in a good position after day one with a 9 stroke lead.  They then went on to take the title by 23 strokes."

The Lancers finished with a two-day total team score of 597, 23 strokes ahead of second place McCook Community College at 620.

The Lancers were led by sophomore Logan Harrison, Cheyenne, WY, who finished the tournament in second place with a two-day total score of 145.

"I was pleased with Logan's performance and leadership," added Smith.  "Everybody on the team contributed and we had several players who finished in the top ten.  I am excited to watch these guys this season."

Ryder Velesquez, freshman, South Ogden, UT, -- 150, 5th
Adrian Torres, freshman, Madrid, Spain, -- 152, 7th
Denton Shaw, freshman, Lusk, WY – 156, tied 9th / 10th
Lars Gittings, freshman, Cheyenne, WY, -- 156, tied 9th /10th

The Lancers will compete in McCook, NE on September 3rd and 4th.
