Lancer golf qualifies for nationals and captures reserve champion title

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf team completed the spring season with a final tournament hosted by Central Wyoming College in Riverton. The Lancers finished the tournament in 2nd place with a total score of 607. McCook Community College was 1st with 606.

This is the fourth straight qualification to nationals for the Lancers as they finished the season as Region IX Reserve Champions.

Regional placings for individuals were as follows:

Trey Massey, sophomore, Lander, WY – 69 points, tied 1st Gonzalo Arcelay Fernandez-Meras, freshman, Munguia, Spain – 58 points, 3rd George Elliott, freshman, Salisbury, United Kingdom – 51 points, 5th Kash Kaufman, freshman, Torrington, WY – 39 points, 7th Malosi Togisala, freshman, Ogden, UT – 35 points, 8th Jared Pilkington, sophomore, Scottsbluff, NE – 22 points, tied 14th

Individual placings for the final tournament in Riverton were as follows:

Massey, 75, 70 – 145, 1st
Togisala, 75, 72 – 147, tied 2nd
Arcelay Fernandez-Meras, 75, 75 – 150, tied 4th Elliott, 80, 75 – 155, tied 7th Pilkington, 77, 81 – 158, tied 9th

"It was tough to come up 1 stroke short of our 3rd Region IX Championship in a row, but I'm proud of the way the guys played all year," said Coach Zach Smith. "I'm lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of athletes. We are eager to travel to Lubbock in a little over a week to compete at nationals."

The Lancers will travel to Lubbock, TX to compete in the national tournament June 15-18.
