EWC Golfers Win Home Tournament

Eastern Wyoming College - Lancer Golf Tournament 2023 - Results

The Eastern Wyoming College golf team won their home tournament, held Sept. 14-15 at Cottonwood golf course in Torrington, WY. The Lancers had six golfers finishing in the top 10.

Lancer Taiki Sugaware, freshman, Alzuwakamatsu, Japan finished in a tie for second place with Central Wyoming College's Hunter Hall with a -2. EWC's Ryker Dunkley, sophomore, American Fork, UT finished in fourth place finishing the tournament with an even. Fellow Lancers Joshua Chapman, freshman, Redruth, England and Tytan Birchell, freshman, Roosevelt, UT finished in a tie for sixth place with a +3. Freshman Braylon Bingham, Cedar City, UT and Leander Suttka, sophomore, Berlin, Germany finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with a +4. 

"We got off to a solid start on Thursday in the rain and were able to put another solid team effort together on Friday to get the win," EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said. "I'm proud of how the guys played, especially the second team who played very well on day two."

Otero Community College's Wesley Rodrigues won the tournament with a -5.

Lancer freshman golfers Coltin Powell, Brodey Deacon, Jax Oviatt, Jordan Hunt, Mathis Fortin, and Tyler Wallace, sophomore also competed in the tournament.

"We need to bring down our stroke average if we are going to accomplish some of our goals," Smith said. "I really enjoy this group of guys and I'm looking forward to our next tournament in Hasting, Nebraska Sept. 25-26."
