EWC team ropers win CSU rodeo

The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team recently competed in Fort Collins, CO at the annual rodeo hosted by Colorado State University. The sophomore team roping team of Braden Pirrung, Hartford, SD and Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY, won the event with a total time of 12.6 seconds in two rounds.  The team was 7th in the first round, and won the short round with a time of 5.1 seconds.

Also in the team roping, sophomores Bryer Wadhams and Trevor Schnaufer, Pueblo, CO, were 2nd in the first round and 6th in the short round and finished the weekend 6th in the average. Other EWC athletes qualifying for the short round were Colton Reed, Wiley, CO; Dalton Wieneke, West Point, NE; and Canton Afdahl, Torrington, WY.

Sophomore Wyatt Schuelke, Faith, SD, qualified for the short round in the steer wrestling and the saddle bronc riding.

In the tie down roping, sophomore Levi Walter, Wray, CO was 5th in the first round.

The EWC women's team continues to earn points each rodeo. In the goat tying, freshman Libby Winchell, Scottsbluff, NE, was 6th in the first round and split first in the short round with a time of 6.9 seconds. She was 4th in the average. Teammate Karissa Rayhill, Martin, SD, was 6th in the average of the goat tying with a total time of 14.6 in two rounds.

Freshman Jacey Thompson, Yoder, WY, was 4th in the short round and 6th in the average of the breakaway roping with a total time of 6.5 seconds on two.

"We had a good rodeo at CSU," shared Coach Jake Clark. "The women's team expanded their lead for second place in the region and some of the men put themselves in a good position for a CNFR qualification.  We are looking forward to the final two rodeos."

In the Central Rocky Mountain Regional (CRMR) standings, Rayhill continues to lead the goat tying with Thompson sitting in 3rd place. Pirrung and Curuchet are sitting in 4th place in the team roping.

The Lancers will compete at the Casper College rodeo April 20-22.
