Lancer women win home opener

The Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team won its 2019 home opener 78-70 over Northeastern JC Tuesday night.

Sophomore forward Paula Martinez Sanz led all scorers with 21 points. Sanz shot 8 of 14 from the floor and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Three other Lancers scored in double figures. Freshmen guards Ane Esnal Aguirre and RaLeigh Basart each scored 12 points, while freshman forward Emilia Axelsson added 11.

Aguirre led the Lancers with five assists and four steals. Freshman forward Montse Gutierrez Ibanez was second on EWC with six rebounds, flollowed by four each from Aguirre and freshman forward Mariana Zanelatto Minotto, who also scored nine points.

EWC led 47-23 at the half, and fought off a furious NJC second-half comeback to secure the eight-point win.
