The Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team fell just short of upsetting the No. 25-ranked team in the nation Wednesday night.

The Lancers (8-9, 1-2 Region IX-North) lost to Gillette College 74-68 in EWC's region home-opener.

Freshman guard Raleigh Basart led the Lancers with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Montse Gutierrez Ibanez scored 14 points and tied with Emilia Axelsson for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Ane Esnal Aguirre scored 10 points with five rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

The game was tied 62-62 with four minutes left before consecutive turnovers led to four quick Pronghorn points and a Lancer timeout. Eastern kept the deficit at fourth but was unable to cut it closer in the game's final minutes.

The Lancers trailed 33-32 at halftime.

Gillette's Kobe King-Hawea, who came into the game as the nation's seventh-highest scorer with an average of 21.9 points per game, was held to 14 by the Lancers.
