Lancers even score with home win against Sheridan

The Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team exacted revenge against Sheridan with a 79-68 home win Wednesday night.

The Lancers were led by standout nights from freshmen Emilia Axelsson (25 points), Ane Esnal Aguirre (20 points) and Raleigh Basart (17 points).

As a team EWC shot 10-for-20 on 3-pointers and hit 17-of-20 free throws (86%) to even the season series against the Generals, who won 73-65 in Sheridan on January 8.

Axelsson also led the Lancers with 12 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. Freshman Emma Strom six rebounds followed by five each from Basart and sophomore Paula Martinez Sanz

The Lancers won each quarter except for the second, which was tied 16-16, and punctuated with a last-second three from Aguirre to give the Lancers a 31-29 lead at the half.

Eastern remains home for another Region IX-North matchup when Northwest comes to town for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
