EWC women win on sophomore night

The Eastern Wyoming College women's basketball team celebrated its three sophomore players with a home win Saturday afternoon.

All three sophomores -- Mar Bastida Olivares, Barbara Trehub and Palua Martinez Sanz -- were in the starting lineup for a 61-43 win over Western Wyoming to close out the regular-season home schedule. The Lancers are 15-12 overall with an 8-4 record in Region IX-North play.

Sanz paced the sophomores with eight points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. 

Freshman Emilia Axelsson led all scorers with 16 points while also putting up a game-high 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Freshman Raleigh Basart scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting with two rebounds and an assist. Freshman Ane Esnal Aguirre added 10 points, a team-high eight assists, six rebounds and four steals.

The Lancers close the regular season next week with games at Laramie County on Wednesday and at Gillette on Saturday.
