EWC men’s team brings home title from Lamar rodeo

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer men's rodeo won the team title at the recent rodeo hosted by Lamar Community College.  Several student-athletes qualified for the short round and placed in the average.

"The men's team had another great weekend taking home their second title of the fall. The team ropers were solid as usual taking 5 of the top ten spots," shared Coach Jake Clark.  "AJ made some great runs in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling which led the charge for our team.  Jamie Thompson is competing well as a freshmen and starting to move up in the standings."

In the team roping the freshman team of Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY and Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY continue to secure their spot at the top of the Central Rocky Mountain regional standings with a second place finish at the rodeo.  Their time on two steers was 14.9 seconds.

The Lancer team had four other athletes also qualify for the team roping short round.  Sophomore Cody Lane, Torrington, WY and freshman Tyus Olson, Mud Butte, SD were third, sophomore Trevor Schnaufer, Pueblo, CO and partner Joby Barquin from Casper College were fourth.  Torrington sophomore Logan Milligan and partner Brady McCurry from Otero were 5th.  Also qualifying for the short round were brothers AJ and Tanner Freeman from Dunning, NE.

AJ Freeman also rounded out his weekend with a third place finish in the steer wrestling and a fifth place finish in the tie down roping.

In the goat tying, freshman Jamie Thompson, Lusk, WY, continues her climb in the regionals standings with a third and fourth place split in the average.

The Lancers will travel to Cheyenne October 9-11 to compete in the final rodeo of the fall season hosted by Laramie County Community College.
