EWC wraps up fall rodeo season with a team roping championship

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo Team concluded the fall season in Cheyenne at the annual Shawn Dubie Memorial rodeo hosted by Laramie County Community College.

Freshman Bryer Wadhams, Pueblo, CO and partner Trevor Schnaufer, sophomore, also from Pueblo, won the team roping average with a total time of 13.7 seconds on two steers.  Wadhams and Schnaufer had a great fall season and are sitting in third place in the Central Rocky Mountain team roping standings.

WC had three other teams of team ropers in the short round finals at the rodeo.  Braden Pirrung, freshman, Hartford, SD and partner JD Kirwan, Gillette College were 5th in the average.  At 6th in the average was the team of Sutton Adams, freshman, Dell Rapids, SD and partner Jaden Clark, University of Wyoming.  Sophomores Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY and Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY were 6th in the first round.

In the saddle bronc riding, freshman Wyatt Schuelke, Faith, SD, split 3rd/4th in the first round.

Schnaufer also split 3rd/4th/5th in the first round of the tie-down roping with a time of 10.5 seconds.

In the breakaway roping, freshman Tanielle Arneson, Enning, SD, qualified for the short round with a time of 2.8 seconds.  She was 5th in the average with a total time of 6.1 seconds.

Sophomore Ballie Mutchler, Whitewood, SD, qualified for the short round in the barrel racing.

"Our team finished the fall season strong on both the men's and women's sides," shared Coach Jake Clark.  "If the season ended today we would be taking five students to nationals.  We will work hard all winter and be ready to compete this spring."

Several Lancers have earned spots in the Central Rocky Mountain region with points earned at the five fall rodeos.  Those student-athletes are listed below.

The spring season will begin March 17-19 in Gillette, WY.
