Rayhill tops national standings

Eastern Wyoming College sophomore stand-out Karissa Rayhill had a great fall rodeo season which has earned her the top spot in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's (NIRA) national standings in the goat tying with a total of 665 points.

Rayhill won the goat tying at the final rodeo of the season held in Cheyenne October 11-13. She is also first in the Central Rocky Mountain Regional standings.

Other results from the rodeo in Cheyenne include two Lancers placing in the barrel racing. Freshman Shay Hough, Gillette, won 3rd in the average and teammate Kelby Eastman, Pine Bluffs, finished 5th in the average. Hough currently sits 10th in the regional standings.

Sophomore Teigen Marchant, Newcastle, won 3rd in the average of the steer wrestling, helping him finish the fall season sitting 6th in the regional standings. Brett McAbee, Ansley, NE, is 6th in the regional standings in the bull riding.

Ty Chasek, sophomore, Mitchell, NE and partner Clayton Symons, sophomore, Mitchell, NE, placed 5th in the average in the team roping. Symons also placed 6th in the average in the tie down roping.

"Our women's team finished the fall season strong.  We are just a few points out of the top two teams," said Coach Jake Clark.  "Our men's team did struggle some this fall but we finished better than we started.  Looking forward to see what next spring brings."

The fall season has concluded and the spring season will begin March 20-22 in Gillette.
