EWC’s Kocian wins barrel racing at CWC rodeo

Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team traveled to Riverton, Wyoming Sept. 22-24 and did not come back empty handed. Eight Lancers made it back to the short go in various events.

Freshman, Camryn Kocian, a Brainard, NE native came out on top this weekend for the Lancers and brought home the average win in the barrel racing with two matching times of 18.09 seconds for the weekend. "I felt like Shotgun worked well under me on top of the ground. It was relieving coming off a rough start in Chadron with a slip, but I stayed confident on what I know my horse and I could perform as," Kocian said. "I knew I had a good shot for the average as long as I stayed clean and helped Shotgun through the turns. I'm grateful to have him as my horse and blessed with a good draw."

EWC Freshman, RaeLee Caldwell, Gillette, WY, went into the short go Sunday sitting first in the goat tying with a 6.9 second run and ended the weekend fourth in the average with a 7.8 second run. Sophomore, Keeley Puls, of Laramie, WY earned points in the goat tying with a 7.6 second run in the long go and a 7.7 in the short go for a fifth place finish for the weekend.

Lancer freshman, Kyler Clark, of Yoder, WY finished the long go first in the round with a 6.1 second run in the team roping event. Clark finished out the weekend third in the average.

Two sophomores, Coy Thar and Trace Travnicek both had successful runs in the calf roping. Thar, a Rozet, WY native, came back for his second short go of the season in the tenth hole with a 10.3 second run. Travnicek, from Minatare, NE, had a 9.6 second run in the long go, and ended his weekend eighth in the average.

Two freshmen represented EWC in the short go for the steer wrestling. TC Hughson, a Mitchell, NE native earned himself some points with a 5.7 second run and a 7.3 in the short go for seventh in the average. Sage Schrunk, of Valentine, NE, came back with a respectful time of 4.9 second in the long go and ended the weekend eighth in the average with a 10.2 second run for the short go.

The Women's Team is now sitting fourth in the region along with the Men's Team sitting sixth. Next weekend the Lancer Rodeo Team will head to Sheridan, WY, Sept. 29-Oct. 1, for the Pat Hamilton Memorial Sheridan College Rodeo.
